Evening, Kate here…

We are still having fun here in Florida. Haven’t posted for a day or two as we revisited previously reviewed restaurants. We hit up FirstWatch yesterday morning for breakfast before spending the whole day at Wet & Wild. We pulled a 12 hour play day and breakfast from FirstWatch filled us for most of the day. We splashed out (pardon the pun) and bought the “all you can eat” BBQ deal at Wet and Wild and the food was great and if my cave kids weren’t climbing up endless floors of stairs to slide down the craziest of fun slides they were refilling at the BBQ tent. I was smart and waited until the storm came and went and the crowds had left for the day and then between 7 – 9pm I rode the slides without lines. I did notice that entrance charges were cheap if you just want to go for the afternoon :)

We also went back to Texas Roadhouseand I have to say that I had THE best steak. For well under $20 you can get the Dallas Filet. This filet is the most tender steak on the menu. It’s a delicious, lean steak that melts in your mouth. I ordered this with a double side of veggies and I was one happy cavegirl!!! YUMMY

So back to today…

After a day around the pool we opted to try a new place and I figured that one more review would be great for the blog. We decided to go for a steak place once again as we all love steak. Little Cavegirls favorite foods these days are either pulled pork, baby back ribs or sirloin steak cooked medium :)

Dinner today was brought to you by…

In a nutshell…

I began by trying a highly recommended Blueberry Long Island Tea which was so potent that I couldn’t drink it so I complained and reordered a $10 glass of Cabernet Sauvignon which was undrinkable too. Tasted like it had sat in it’s opened bottle for a week. Even the water was right from the tap and tasted rank :(

Two cavekids ordered Filet Mignon, one cooked medium and the other medium well and they both were very over cooked. The rest of us ordered Pork, Beef, or Chicken by the pound. We each had one type of meat to share amongst the three of us. We ordered sides of fresh broccoli and coleslaw. We requested the broccoli to not be steamed in butter. The broccoli was great :) The meat… NOT!

The pork was pulled and fatty and somewhat slimy, the beef was brisket but not like any brisket I have seen before. The chicken was diced chicken in a sauce more like a casserole. Not what we were expecting at all. They all came out on the cool side on cold plates and wow we were disappointed. When your 8 year old expresses her dislike for her steak and knows it is overcooked then… well!

We expressed our concerns to our waitress and she brought out the manager who then went into the kitchen to prove to us that the food could be good by making a sample of each himself. I am sorry but if the manager can go into the kitchen and cook (heat up) the dishes then why the hec does he have a chef!! He failed to know what a medium done steak should look like and quite frankly he made us all feel very uncomfortable. His point was noted that he bought the very best of meats, which maybe the case but if you can’t cook them right then why bother.

Having just had such a great steak at Texas Roadhouse for less we felt very cheated. We asked for the bill so we could leave and in fairness the manager didn’t charge us a dime.
Not a good experience and in truth this has been the first time we have had a poor meal in the 3 years of coming to Florida so I guess we are doing well.

where they have sweet potatoes and fresh veggies too – YEE HAA!

Seriously THE BEST ribs I’ve ever had. Their slow-cooked Fall-Off-The-Bone Ribs have won awards all across America. They also lay claim to some of the most flavorful, freshly prepared hand-cut steaks anywhere — cut lean and cooked just the way you like ‘em.

Check these out..

P8110126

You get to choose the steak you want.

4 out of 5 of us had pulled pork and the rib Texas size combo with a side of sweet potato and fresh veggies. Master Caveman opted for the sirloin steak and rib combo the same sides too. Remember to ask for the sweet potato plain and dry and it was great to get a good helping of fresh broccoli even if it was a little over cooked.

Hello, Kate here…

We had a Wet and Wild Day today and Mr. Caveman and I floated around the lazy river for what seemed like hours while the cave kids lined up and swam the wild rides. It was great to be in the water on another super hot day.

We had breakfast at one of our favorite places, First Watch this morning and I will post about that tomorrow. We go there every time we come to Orlando. First Watch make the best omelets and the customer service is great. Check back tomorrow for more on that.

Tonight we ventured out so dinner is brought to you today by…

Medieval Times

NewImage

Medieval Times is a dinner theater and tournament.

We hit a crazy CRAZY storm as we arrived and Mr.Caveman dropped us at the castle’s draw bridge but by the time we ran in we were soaked. Hubby sat in the car a good 20 minutes waiting for the rain, mega thunder and lightning to subside and then made a run for it :) We had a fun night, the cave kids had a blast and it was great to watch them soaking up the atmosphere.

NewImage

This was the feast, of which we ate the meat and the tomato soup.

NewImage

For me it actually looked like this… ;)

NewImage P8100113

There was ample meat to be fair and I didn’t come away hungry, just a little disappointed that there were no veggies of any kind. I was left wanting for something sweet which led to a trip to Super Target on the way home for a 85% cacao choc fix :)

I must add that the above photo would have looked prettier before I began scoffing my chicken leg and for a non paleo person this dinner would be satisfying I’m sure. if I am honest I was a tad disappointed as a paleo eater. However the entertainment was awesome and really made the night!! You don’t just come to the Medieval Times for the food, you come for the entertainment and the all round medieval experience. For that it was great :)

Here’s the lowdown…

Medieval Times

  • Paleo options – just the meat and the tomato bisque soup (I think the soup was paleo)
  • Gluten free menu – no
  • Yummy? -  Chicken was moist and the skin was crisp. The spare rib was tasty but I wanted more :)
  • Is the food organic – no idea
  • Adaptability – you could decline the garlic bread, potatoes and apple pastry but no alternatives (I did see that there was a vegetarian meal available)
  • Price – $$$
  • Wait time – none as the food was all part of the show
  • Customer Service – good
  • Go back again? - no
  • Cool (entertainment) factor – Very good :)

Paleo-people-eat-a-meat-a = 8/10 (mostly for the entertainment)

Hi there, Kate here…

Well we have had such a good day exploring Legoland for the first time.

P8090025

Temperatures were sky high today (high 90s) and the park reasonably quiet which meant we could ride the roller coasters over and over. FUN!

We stopped at the local supermarket, Publix on the way home for paleo ice-cream. Much needed I can tell you. We love So Delicious Coconut Milk (Dairy Free Desserts) ice-creams.

We were exhausted and with big plans for tomorrow night we all chose to eat in tonight. Mr. Caveman loves to dabble in the kitchen and hey, who am I to get in his way ;) I say let the man cook up a storm. Not literally as we already had one today. Actually we have been lucky with the weather so far. Thunder today but no rain thankfully :)

So let me set the scene…]

Our little home from home kitchen.
