Kate here…

Actually this post is dedicated to MY Cavegirl Mum who has embraced a Paleo lifestyle since visiting me in the beginning of July and has never looked back since. The last time I checked in with her, which was almost 2 weeks ago she’d lost over 8lbs in weight and lost 3+ inches off her waist and numerous inches off elsewhere too. I am so very proud of her and I am planning a post in the future with the full story of Cavegirl Sue in the UK. What is doubly great is that now I can start telling you about great finds and paleo news in and from the UK too. I’m hoping that once Sue is more in the Paleo groove she could be a contributor to Northwest Cavegirls herself representing and sharing her experiences living a paleo lifestyle in England.

So… I spotted a facebook post she wrote raving about a great dairy free Paleo friendly ice-cream that she bought from her local Tesco supermarket and of course I jumped all over it.

Hot off the press – 20th May – Bessant & Drury featured in the Mail on Sunday as top coconut product , described as ‘creamy and delicious’

20120818-081405.jpg

Our product is a coconut milk based frozen dessert sweetened with apple and uses only natural ingredients. It is the only coconut milk based frozen desert in the UK. Coconut is one of the healthiest foods with amazing health benefits.

Bessant and Drury’s is different because other dairy free desserts use soya or rice milk which do not give the creaminess associated with traditional ice cream that coconut milk delivers, nor the huge health benefits associated with the coconut super food.

Bessant & Drury’s Fine Ice Creams are dairy-free, vegan, GMO free, cholesterol free, additive and colouring free.

Keep up the great work Cavegirl Sue and keep sharing your Paleo finds and experiences with us. The more I share Paleo the more I realize that it’s already ‘so out there’ around the world. AND more encouraging is that there are more people out there ‘wanting’ to know AND that’s why we’re here :)

Until next time…
Bye for now, Kate

Hi there, Kate here…

Well we have had such a good day exploring Legoland for the first time.

P8090025

Temperatures were sky high today (high 90s) and the park reasonably quiet which meant we could ride the roller coasters over and over. FUN!

We stopped at the local supermarket, Publix on the way home for paleo ice-cream. Much needed I can tell you. We love So Delicious Coconut Milk (Dairy Free Desserts) ice-creams.

We were exhausted and with big plans for tomorrow night we all chose to eat in tonight. Mr. Caveman loves to dabble in the kitchen and hey, who am I to get in his way ;) I say let the man cook up a storm. Not literally as we already had one today. Actually we have been lucky with the weather so far. Thunder today but no rain thankfully :)

So let me set the scene…]

Our little home from home kitchen.

This sun has gone to my head because I’m well and truly in summer mode! Am I in for a rude awakening when Pacific Northwest’s springtime reappears next week?!

Well we can never be too ready right? As our local ice-cream parlor is still closed for the winter it got me thinking that a) they should be back open for business right now because they are missing out on a ton of sales and then b) what am I going to eat, ice-cream wise, this summer? (insert sad face)

It’s all well and good making our own at home blitzing coconut milk, frozen fruit and a splash of vanilla extract but it’s not the same as eating it from a stick or out of a cone. Well I have yet to master the cone BUT I have found some “drop dead gorgeous” ice-creams made from coconut milk. They all use algarve syrup as their sweetener and I’m not sure how you feel about that as I’m a little unsure too. Anyway they ARE dairy, soy, wheat free and sugar free** too.

Here’s the lowdown so far…

  • Coconut Bliss Dark Chocolate Bars are my favorite.
  • Chocolate Bliss Chocolate Bliss Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge is hubby’s favorite
  • So **Delicious Cookie Dough is my youngest’s favorite.
  • My caveteenage son loves all the bars and has yet to try the tubs.

Yes these ice creams are pricer than regular ice-cream for sure but it’s true to say that you get what you pay for and these ice-creams and sorbets are going to make me a happy little cavegirl this summer. It’s so great to have found amazing ice-cream that is dairy, soy, wheat and refined sugar free.

I bought all of these from my local organic supermarket PCC but I am sure you can find them at Whole Foods too. Let us know if you have bought them at a bigger chain such as QFC, Fred Myers or Safeway. I would be stoked if I can :) I’ll update if I can too.

** Please note: The So Delicious Cookie Dough ice-cream contains cane sugar and rice flour and is the least paleo clean of all.

Let us know of any “drop dead gorgeous” frozen paleo snacks and desserts you’ve tried, tested and can rave about. Hey, let us know the ones to avoid too ;) THANKS!
