Happy Baking!

Well, folks, you ask and we deliver!

We’ve gotten requests for a book compiling our recipes into an easy to search format; so, we’ve put together the first of hopefully many such eBooks. This eBook, The Northwest Cavegirls Bake, features 34 cookie, cupcake, muffin, scone and pie recipes, many of which have never before been published and are exclusive to this eBook. We’ve included many colorful photographs of these tasty treats as well.

Our eBook, The Northwest Cavegirls Bake, is available in Kindle format from Amazon. If you have Amazon Prime, you can borrow the eBook for free, otherwise it is available for only $1.99!

As we continue to move forward, we hope to compile more eBooks featuring topics such as “Breakfasts”, “Snacks” “Kid Friendly Paleo Foods”, “Paleo Dinner Party Ideas”, “Paleo Meal Plans”, “Side Dishes” and many more. What kind of book would you like to see us put together? Is there a topic you’re most interested in seeing published? Give us your ideas and we’ll go to work making them a reality for you.

We’re having such fun on this adventure and love sharing our journey and the things we’ve learned along the way. We hope you find it nearly as exciting as we do, and we hope you continue to let us know what we can do to make your Paleo lifestyle even more fulfilling.

Stay tuned to see what us crazy Cavegirls do next!

It is with warmth in our hearts and excitement in the pits of our tummies that we share our great news with you.

Northwest Cavegirls is now a company!

For the longest time now Cavegirl Angie and I have wanted to venture out together, start a business and do something that we are both passionate about.

Having worked on our blog and lived the Paleo lifestyle for 2 years now, we have enjoyed helping others feel better, lose weight, eat healthier while promoting the premise of “eating real food”.

We have come a long way already since my crazy Facebook status update of “Hey, we should create a paleo blog and we could call ourselves the Cavegirls of the Northwest, whacha think?”

So where are we now?

Well, the company is formed, licenses are in hand. Insurance in place and our Cottage Operations Application is currently under consideration.

Our plan…

Bake Bake BAKE for… you guys!

We have 30 recipes on our paleo bake list. Not all to be made at once I might add. We will start off slow with maybe 5-6 different items for sale via a storefront on Northwest Cavegirls with pick up around the area and at local farmers markets. We’re planning on being at the Woodinville Farmers Market each week, too, when that starts up in May (hopefully our permit will be issued by then!). More on that to follow. We would LOVE to see you there :)

Longterm vision…

We hope to evolve into Cavegirl entrepreneurs, share paleo power around the Pacific Northwest, introduce videos, podcasts and reach out to ALL around the world via the blog and move forward with…

Now that would be telling, WATCH THIS SPACE :)

Angie and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your continued support and encouragement. As gluten-free and paleo continue to be buzz words and evolve we hope to be at its forefront here in the PNW. We plan to continue to provide yummy grain-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free recipes, NWCG merchandise, and customized meal plans for all through the blog. And soon we will be offering ready-to-eat Northwest Cavegirl baked items, fresh and delicious for delivery, drop off and pick up.

We are “beyond words” excited and yes, a little nervous spreading our wings and leaving the comfort of our no-obligation-no-money-involved-when-we-have-the-time commitment we have previously enjoyed with Northwest  Cavegirls.  But with your support we can lift up our clubs (rubber spatulas) and grow this business, promote healthy eating, provide relief to many suffers of conditions such as Celiac, IBS, Food allergies/intolerances, Acne,  Diabetes, Obesity, Auto Immune Diseases, Leaky Gut… the list goes on!

We feel we have helped, inspired and endevoured to educate our children, our families, our friends and you guys – our beloved followers. How great will it be to be able to reach out in person and provide ready made products that can make life for others easier, pain free and basically “happier”.

We’re ready, are you?

Yabadabadoo!

Kate here…

Having begun my Paleo journey a year and a half ago, I have been sharing paleo power to family, many of whom think I am a little cuckoo! As you may or may not know my lovely mum still lives in the UK and after quitting the cigarettes 5 years ago she began to put on weight. Having always been able to manage her weight in the past she was frustrated to find that whatever she tried failed to drop the pounds. Having gone to her doctor in the UK she found herself on a diet of bran flake cereal (with milk drained off as she’s allergic to dairy), lactalose and slimming pills which I might add were prescribed by her doctor! Guess what? still no weight loss! My mum’s body had gone into starvation lockdown mode and out of fear of dying i presume, hung onto every fat store in case it was needed. This all sound crazy to you? Me too!

Good news…

My mum decided to give paleo a go. Hey, what did she have to loose? I know she was fearful of eating 3 full meals a day and couldn’t believe that you have to eat to loose weight. Her body had ceased all operations and now we had to get it back to it’s default factory setting or working again at least.

From the minute my mum stepped off the airplane she was in paleo mindset and open to anything I fed her and did to her. One of these torturous things was to weigh her and measure her to get a baseline. This was something my mum had refused to do for many years. Getting on a set of scales was too depressing and avoided at all costs. Even when she would go to her doctors she told the medical staff to NOT reveal her weight. SO weight and measurements were taken and my mum began to eat again…

After a whole month of eating grain-free, dairy free, refined sugar free… well, just eating real food – PERIOD! My mum felt energized, healthier, motivated, happier, and a little thinner. Losing a number of inches from her bust, waist, arms and hips. Shedding 3 pounds on her month vacation having eaten a ton more than she’d eaten the rest of the year was a great result.

That was the summer of 2012. My mum is still living the paleo life and having gone back home to the UK she emptied her kitchen cabinets/pantry stores, fridge and freezer of all things non paleo and endeavored to restock with paleo supplies. This in turn motivated me to follow suit. I was amazed at how much cr&% I still had at the back of my cupboards. Old containers of cornstarch and bags of sugar and flour.

My mum is very much like me, set her mind to something and them becomes OCD about it. We would have to iron our hands if we ate wheat now. Seriously our 80/20 is really 95/5 and the 5% is only stuff that is hidden or unknown.

Vices?, yes we still have them. Too many yummy baked paleo treats, red wine and of course for me oodles of high % dark chocolate!

This post is to share my cavemum’s journey and to say how very proud I am.  I have included below some of her words that bring to life the essence of how she is coping and dealing with being a cavegirl in the UK.

 Over to Cavegirl Sue…

    • I too want to be a Cavegranny. I only wish we had health food stores like you have in the North West of America. . I’m finding it very hard to source good quality organic products here in the North East of England. and when I do find them . The cost in many cases is a total rip off. To use an example, without using names. When I first bought Coconut oil, I went to a health food store where I bought the oil and a few other ingredients I needed, The cononut oil was 17 English Pounds. It wasn’t until , at a later date, I found I could buy coconut oil at my local supermarket for less than 4 English pounds . (new Computer, Haven’t found my pound sign yet ). I was not happy. There could be no excuse for such a difference in price . I expect to pay a little more at a specialist store. but that was over 4 times the cost. . Because these shops are few and far between. they charge exorbitant prices.
So come on England. Lets have some good health food supermarkets.

      • Hi again, Re-visiting Cavegirls, I feel I must update my comments. First, I no longer want to be a cavegranny. I AM a cavegranny. IN fact I would like to say I am a cavegirl but looking in the mirror, I have to own up to never being a girl again . At 66 yrs, The mirror never lies. SO hey , it’s how you feel that counts and since being on the Paleo lifestyle. I feel so much better. I must thank my lovely daughter Kate , she put me straight onto paleo the minute my feet touched Seattle soil last July ( 2012 ). I ,like many others was very sceptical but seeing how this lifestyle had changed Kate , She looked amazing , everything about her , her skin, her looks and her general vitality. She was a new woman with a new view on life. Adding to that , her figure was to die for.. I had to have some of that. So I was putty in her hands and Kate loves a challenge and I’m certainly that.
So here I am, March 2013, and have been 100% Paleo since stepping on Seattle soil. WOW, I feel like the POPE. No truthfuly, I’m feeling better , hopefully looking a bit better. I’ve had a few health hickups, but have kept solid to Paleo. When I returned home, last July , I cleared out my kitchen of everthing NON-poleo. and stocked my cupboards with only Paleo products. Living alone , made this easy for me . I had only myself to consider. So my new lifestyle began. With the help of many questions to Kate like why can I eat Sweet potato and not ordinary ones. . I’m sure she got sick of me asking so many questions, but she was taking a big part in keeping me Paleo.Thank You Kate.
So now, it’s my way of life , I couldn’t imagine being any other than a cavegranny.
I must Also thank Angie, as she was the instigator in Kate’s Paleo.lifestyle. So thank You Angie.
I know that you and Kate are looking into a new venture together. I hope , in a small way , that one day I can be a help to you both. Good Luck to both of you.

Happy New Year to all of you Cave People out there! We here at Northwest Cavegirls hope you had a wonderful 2012 and hope you have an even better 2013 filled with real food, good health, friends and family. As living life to the fullest takes precedence over blogging, you may see new posts appear in fits and spurts this year, but all of our past recipes, links, science and tips are always here for you to browse, use and share with others.

In the mean time, I wanted to share the new Yoga Yak video I’ve been using lately. This one is a few minutes shorter than the other 2, but is just as invigorating.
