This sun has gone to my head because I’m well and truly in summer mode! Am I in for a rude awakening when Pacific Northwest’s springtime reappears next week?!

Well we can never be too ready right? As our local ice-cream parlor is still closed for the winter it got me thinking that a) they should be back open for business right now because they are missing out on a ton of sales and then b) what am I going to eat, ice-cream wise, this summer? (insert sad face)

It’s all well and good making our own at home blitzing coconut milk, frozen fruit and a splash of vanilla extract but it’s not the same as eating it from a stick or out of a cone. Well I have yet to master the cone BUT I have found some “drop dead gorgeous” ice-creams made from coconut milk. They all use algarve syrup as their sweetener and I’m not sure how you feel about that as I’m a little unsure too. Anyway they ARE dairy, soy, wheat free and sugar free** too.

Here’s the lowdown so far…

  • Coconut Bliss Dark Chocolate Bars are my favorite.
  • Chocolate Bliss Chocolate Bliss Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge is hubby’s favorite
  • So **Delicious Cookie Dough is my youngest’s favorite.
  • My caveteenage son loves all the bars and has yet to try the tubs.

Yes these ice creams are pricer than regular ice-cream for sure but it’s true to say that you get what you pay for and these ice-creams and sorbets are going to make me a happy little cavegirl this summer. It’s so great to have found amazing ice-cream that is dairy, soy, wheat and refined sugar free.

I bought all of these from my local organic supermarket PCC but I am sure you can find them at Whole Foods too. Let us know if you have bought them at a bigger chain such as QFC, Fred Myers or Safeway. I would be stoked if I can :) I’ll update if I can too.

** Please note: The So Delicious Cookie Dough ice-cream contains cane sugar and rice flour and is the least paleo clean of all.

Let us know of any “drop dead gorgeous” frozen paleo snacks and desserts you’ve tried, tested and can rave about. Hey, let us know the ones to avoid too ;) THANKS!

  1. Kate – I just want to know if you sat down to a buffet of these desserts and tried them all or has this been an extended trial period? :)

    • Ha-ha NO! bought over a few weeks but with a mission in mind :) With my hungry hounds they don’t last long!

  2. My favorite last summer was the Coconut Bliss Naked Coconut one. This year, I can’t wait to try So Delicious’s Hibiscus Sorbet made with coconut water. VERY cool that they are making these.

  3. OMG! My absolutle FAV thing to eat anytime is ice cream! Especially during the summer! I live in Arkansas…where in the world would I find these??????

  4. Kelly, You’d probably have to go to LR or Memphis or some other city to find it in AR if even there, But you can make your own. I found a few recipes on elanaspantry.com that looked really good. Here’s my favorite http://www.elanaspantry.com/coconut-chocolate-chip-ice-cream/

Looks like Whole Foods and Kroger are carriers of these brands in Arkansas. Good luck! I’ll be hunting these down in Illinois this summer!

  6. Ok, so now that I’ve had the Luna and Larry’s Coconut Bliss chocolate bars on a stick and the So Delicious Coconut Almond minis… I can add my WOW to Kate’s excitement. These really are superb treats. We’ve gotten them for special times and NONE of us feel like we’re missing out on the “other stuff” that is missing in these lovely bars.
